A quick Internet search can prove some eye popping results in regards to how much professional whitening can cost. With the economy being the way it is, it is pretty hard to justify spending $1,200 for a dental treatment that is not really necessary. However, people also want to have a bright smile. Teeth whitening kits are the logical alternative.

Even the best teeth whitening kits can be found for less than $100, which is a far cry from the $1,200 or so it can cost for a laser treatment. There are ones that will cost a little more than that (they are the ones that require a custom-made mouth tray), but they are more of a matter of preference versus a difference in results.

As with anything, expectations are going to play a big part in how the success is measured. Realizing that the most expensive laser teeth whitening will brighten the teeth by about 7 or 8 shades, what can one truly expect from a $75 teeth whitening kit? What can be expected of a $2 tube of toothpaste?

Realistically, these kits will improve the smile about two or three shades. Some people have even experienced up to five shades, but they are definitely the exception to the rule. When looking at complaints via review sites, the biggest issue is that people are not level with the degree of whitening, yet every one of them will even say that their teeth are about three shades brighter.

Again, it is all about expectations and knowledge. As long as you only expect the teeth whitening kits to brighten the smile by no more than three levels, you are going to be more than satisfied with the kit. Anything over that should be considered a bonus. For teeth that require a larger improvement in brightness, it is advised to seek the treatment of a dental treatment that will have a more dramatic effect.

If you are really going for a smile makeover for your teeth consulting a proper cosmetic dentist and proper planning will help you optimize your cost and efforts. Keeping the cost realistic and affordable depends on proper guidance from your dentist and the time you spend researching on teeth whitening products and techniques.

Tooth whitening costs largely depends on the manufacturer of the whitening product and the types of treatment. Laser whitening treatment can be quite expensive. It ranges from $500 to $1000. This again varies from location to location depending on the ingredients used and the brand you adopt.
The standard fees of teeth bleaching or teeth whitening techniques are dependent on which process or products are needed. Whitening of one tooth may only cost $50-$100 in many parts of USA, whereas the laser treatment for your entire teeth will be much more costly.
Usually the price of teeth whitening increases with the frequency of in office treatments required by the patient. Generally dental insurance does not cover the cost of the tooth whitening.

At home trays kits are less expensive choices that range from $100-$1000. OTC whitening strips, toothpastes and brush hardly costs $20-$100. Refills of less expensive and the costly ones are available for $20-$100.

In some cases teeth veneers or bonding could be more effective than other teeth whitening methods. If you are going for porcelain veneers you would be paying $1000 - $2800 per tooth, compared to composite veneers that cost only $250 per tooth or more.

This also requires frequent clinic visits in alternative weeks according to the specific dental conditions. However, porcelain veneers are more effective than plastic and the effect lasts for 10-15 years or more depending upon the precautions you take up after the process is complete. Composite veneers can last for 5-7 years.

Lumineer Porcelain Veneers involves a cost of $500 - $1000 per tooth. This also has a long lasting effect for 10 years or more and requires just two visits to your cosmetic dentist.

You should be sure to avoid abusing whitening agents that can be unfavorable to your teeth and gums. While the cost is an essential issue of concern, it is also necessary that you adopt the right technique and the right product that is suitable for your dental condition is also equally important.

A tooth whitening strip is basically a thin piece of polyethylene which has a film of hydrogen peroxide on it. As you may already know, this peroxide is a whitening agent that's used in many tooth whitening treatments.

The method of using the teeth whitening strips is pretty straightforward. You simply press it onto your teeth and leave it there for awhile. Commonly, you have to leave it for 30 minutes. You won't get much benefit from doing it just the once, however. Usually you will have to do this twice a day for 2 weeks. But this obviously varies from product to product.

Teeth whitening strips can work to some degree, but they don't really compare to having it done professionally. The main reason for this is the chemicals used. If you have professional tooth whitening performed at the dentist, the chemical that will be used will invariably be "Carbamide peroxide". This is much more effective than the hydrogen peroxide that's used in the strips.

Some level of side effects tends to be a general problem when using teeth whitening strips as a method of whitening teeth with the most common side effects being gum irritation and sensitive teeth (both problems will generally disappear over time). The likelihood of suffering from such side effects is reduced if you use teeth whitening strips with the lower concentration of bleaching agent (6%) which will deliver the same result as the higher concentration strips but it will just take longer to whiten your teeth.

Teeth whitening strips can help a lot in making you feel confident about making a good impression. The best way for you to be confident and feel great about yourself is by putting on that great smile - thanks to your teeth whitening strips!

Toothpaste with tooth whitening built in is a good choice. But how does it compare with tooth whitening gel kits available on the market. Will tooth whitening paste deliver the perfect smile? Well maybe, but you may need some help from a free tooth whitening gel kit or swab kit.

The toothpaste is great for minor stains or as prevention, but it is a mild abrasive rather than a teeth stripping product. Tooth whitening tooth paste is great to keep on top of day to day stuff but to get a clean smile to start with save money by getting a free tooth whitening gel kit.

My preferred method of tooth whitening is to use one of the new teeth whitening swabs which you use to apply directly to the teeth. In just 6 days you will see fantastic results and you can even get a kit to try for free.

Here's how it works: Each Teeth Whiten Tips system comes with a 6-day supply of disposable applicator swabs filled with a liquid formula, and a separate jar of whitening powder. The jar contains gentle, stabilized Magnesium Peroxide (whitener) and Aluminum Trihydroxide (polisher) that is "activated" by the formula-filled swabs.

The polish agent will remove stains harmlessly and to great effect. The beauty of using the swabs is that you cannot apply too much of the chemical or too much of the polish. They are a great way of whitening your teeth without the need to measure out any chemicals or wrestle with strips.

Whatever method of teeth whitening you use you will have to do this on a regular basis depending on how often you consume staining food and drink and depending on whether you smoke or not.

At all times be careful when choosing the stronger kits out on the market. You can easily overdo it and strip away the protective tooth enamel. This can lead to painful sensitive teeth as well as causing damage and tooth enamel does not grow back.

You can get a Free Dental Teeth Whitening Kit from our teeth whitening blog at http://www.dentalteethwhiteningkits.com/blog - just click the banner. All you pay is a little postage

Toothpaste that claims to whiten your teeth is one of the first steps everyone makes to try and get a whiter and brighter smile. However, these toothpastes does do not actually bleach your teeth. Instead it's more of a way to either help reduce surface stains caused by coffee, smoking, tea or foods that can stain. If you have already undergone a whitening treatment, a toothpaste is a great way to help prevent and slow down future discoloration and staining.

It Doesn't Contain Hydrogen Peroxide

Almost all whitening toothpastes do not contain hydrogen peroxide or any bleaching solution, which is the primary ingredient needed to bleach your teeth. Instead they contain mildly abrasive particles and when combined with scrubbing with a toothbrush scrub debris off the surface of your teeth. Many time they will also contain polishing agents to help give you what appears to be a brighter and whiter color.

Some Actually Have Hydrogen Peroxide

Some teeth whitening toothpastes actually have small traces of peroxide, but only at low levels. Studies have shown that teeth whitening toothpaste that does contain peroxide only deliver a 1% or less exposure of hydrogen peroxide to a tooth's surface. This low level of peroxide in combination with the fact that most people only brush their teeth approximately 30 seconds to 2 minutes only allows a brief exposure time, making any whitening effect practically impossible. If you want an effective teeth whitening solution you will need at least a 3% peroxide solution in combination of the solution being exposed to your teeth for at least 15 to 30 minutes.

When they were introduced years ago, tartar-control toothpastes caused a sensation in the market owing to their alleged ability to prevent gum disease. But the question remains: do these products really work or are they just an advertising gimmick?

First of all, what is tartar? This chalky, hard substance which your dentist calls calculus is a product of minerals in your saliva and plaque - a sticky material that clings to the surface of the teeth. As plaque accumulates, it hardens to form tartar which irritates the gums and can make you susceptible to periodontal disease.

"Tartar is calcified plaque, made rock hard by the minerals in saliva. If the plaque isn't removed by flossing and brushing, it can start to harden in 24 to 36 hours," said Consumer Reports.

Tartar-control toothpastes normally contain pyrophosphate and zinc citrate which can reduce tartar by as much as 50 percent. However, there is no evidence that the use of such products will actually prevent gum disease or tooth decay.

The reason: most of the harmful effects of tartar occur below the gum line which cannot be reached by brushing with antitartar toothpastes. Only a dentist can scrape off these hard deposits which mean that there is no substitute for regular dental care.

"Much advertising is being done these days for tartar-control toothpastes. These toothpastes have been found to decrease the accumulation of tartar on the teeth above the gum but have little or no effect on tartar below the gum line. Unfortunately, it is the tartar below the gum line that can lead to periodontitis, the gum disease that can result in loss of teeth. Tartar-control toothpastes may have a cosmetic effect and make your teeth easier to clean when you see the dentist, but they are of little use in keeping the really harmful tartar from building up," said Dr. David E. Larson, editor-in-chief of the “Mayo Clinic Family Health Book.”

"The American Dental Association endorsement found on some brands of tartar-control toothpaste refers not to the antitartar qualities but to the fluoride the toothpastes contain," he added.

Aside from being ineffective, antitartar toothpastes may also make your teeth more sensitive to cold. The active ingredients of some brands may leave your mouth red and irritated. This was reported by the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology which said that a rash appeared in a group of women being treated for dental problems at a Baltimore hospital. This was later traced to the irritating effect of their tartar-control toothpastes.

"Compounds of pyrophosphate, the active ingredients in tartar-control toothpastes, are the source of the trouble: either alone or with saliva, they form a solution that irritates especially sensitive tissue. When the women limited use of the tartar-control toothpaste to once a day, it no longer acted as an irritant," wrote Janice Perrone in American Health magazine.

To get the most out of this product, choose one with multiple ingredients. That way, it can keep your teeth clean and healthy. But don’t forget to see a dentist regularly. Otherwise, tartar could accumulate under your gum line and lead to serious problems later.

You've probably heard of tooth whitening strips and their whitening wonders. Some people swear that a tooth whitening strip across their teeth is the best way to achieve a dazzling smile. Even better than other professional tooth whitening products, they may say.

But is this true? Do tooth whitening strips outperform other products like tooth whitening gel, tooth whitening trays, or similar systems?

The Tooth Whitening Strip - How It Works

Tooth whitening strips are a unique tooth bleaching system. They are clear strips of plastic coated with carbamide peroxide (usually around 6-10% concentration), and are designed to be worn over the teeth twice a day, for an average of 30 minutes each session. The upper tooth whitening strip has a particular design as does the one for the bottom teeth. They are easy to apply and are barely noticeable to others (and thus can be worn practically any time of the day).

The Tooth Whitening Strip - Is It Effective?

As mentioned, a tooth whitening strip is designed to fit directly on the fronts of our teeth without causing any oral discomfort or jaw pain (unlike other products with which these symptoms are often associated - more on this later).

The bleaching solution used on a tooth whitening strip is an effective whitening solution. The strips deliver them well and have proven to make teeth whiter in a matter of days.

However, there is a serious drawback called "striping" that is not usually mentioned by advocates of the tooth whitening strip. Striping is when the areas between your teeth - the nooks and crannies - are not reached because whitening strips only connect with the fronts of our teeth.

Imagine painting a brown fence white but not dipping your brush in between the crevices. The end result will be a white fence with strips of brown. This is how teeth often look like after using whitening strips.

So while they may work, "striping" is definitely not something in the product's favor.

The Tooth Whitening Strip - Costs Involved

Tooth whitening strips are not that expensive. Depending on the brand you want to buy, probably the lowest you'll pay for a box of tooth whitening strips is $25.

The Tooth Whitening Strip - Any Alternatives?

There are a few home tooth whitening alternatives. One would be whitening toothpastes. However, because toothpastes spend very little time on one's teeth, especially after rinsing, they don't come highly recommended.

Another would be the use of a tooth whitening tray. Some people claim trays to be the most superior system as they allow teeth to be completely submerged in tooth whitening solution. However, other people complain that trays are bulky and uncomfortable. This is true of generic trays that are designed as one-size-fits-all. The best trays are those custom-made to fit your teeth. They are far more comfortable and provide comprehensive whitening.

Then of course, you have your dentist. Nothing beats the professional attention of a dentist and this is probably everyone's best recourse. The only drawback is the tooth whitening cost involved. You will be charged anywhere between $500 - $2000 per treatment.

Our tooth whitening tip? Try a tooth whitening strip just to see how it goes. Then try trays and work your way from there.

There's nothing more beautiful than a white and perfect smile. It conveys a good oral hygiene and self-confidence. There was a time when white smile only belongs to celebrities and superstars, but it's not the case anymore. Today, anyone can have a perfect smile as long as you can afford it, you can have it. There are a lot of teeth whitening products nowadays that are readily available in the market. These products range in price from several dollars up to hundreds of dollars.Anyone can have teeth whitening done by the dentist in his clinic in about an hour, or you can buy a teeth whitening system from your dentist to use right in your own home. Laser teeth whitening system can cost you $600.00 for just one session. It may be expensive but it is worth your money. If you don't have that much money to spend, and do not have to see the results immediately, you can try teeth whitening right in your own home. The most popular in home teeth whitening system are the tray-based systems.

Your dentist will perform a thorough examination of your teeth and gums before starting your teeth whitening treatment. The dentist will make sure that your teeth and gums are healthy, which will cut down on potentially painful side effects. If you have receding gums you are at more risk to suffer from gum tenderness when using a tray based whitening system. You will need to decide if you are going to whiten both upper and lower teeth. If you only have one dental tray made, the price is much lower compared to having two trays made. It is also best to whiten both lower and upper teeth at the same time. You don't want to have a set of brilliant white top teeth and dingy yellow bottom teeth - not a good look.

Your dentist will also advise you that any dental restorations you may have will not whiten. If there is an obvious noticeable difference you may have opt to have the restoration replaced once the desired level of whitening has been achieved.

In order to help you see your progress your dentist will determine your current tooth shade on a chart. This way when you return for a check up you'll be able to see how much whiter your teeth are. Your dentist will take an impression of your upper and lower teeth. These impressions will be turned into clear soft flexible plastic trays. These trays will be trimmed so they cover each tooth, but not the gum line.

When you see your dentist and are given the trays, generally a few days after the impressions are made, the dentist will make sure the impressions fit well and are comfortable. He or she will give you the 10% carbamide peroxide gel to use in the trays. They'll also show you how to put the gel in the tray and how to avoid getting excess gel on your gums.

The dentist will give you instructions on how long to wear the trays in your mouth. Some dentists recommend not wearing the trays for longer than five hours to minimize possible gum tenderness. Some people are able to wear them overnight. Dentist's suggests that if you cannot wear your dental tray for at least four hours, then don't. Wearing dental tray less than four hours is just a waste of whitening gel because it has no effect.

Find out what teeth whitener kits are right for you? Here are a few that i have experienced. Recommended Teeth Whitener Kits:

1.Teeth Whitener tips-Whitening Toothpastes

All toothpastes help remove surface stains because they have mild abrasives. Some whitening toothpastes contain gentle polishing or chemical agents that provide additional stain removal effectiveness. Whitening toothpastes can help remove surface stains only and do not contain bleach; over-the-counter and professional whitening products contain hydrogen peroxide (a bleaching substance) that helps remove stains on the tooth surface as well as stains deep in the tooth.
Whitening toothpastes can lighten your teeth's color by about one shade. In contrast, light-activated whitening conducted in your dentist's office (see below) can make your teeth three to eight shades lighter.

2.Teeth Whitener tips-Strips and Gels

Whitening gels are clear, peroxide-based gels applied with a small brush directly to the surface of your teeth. Instructions generally call for twice a day application for 14 days. Initial results are seen in a few days and final results are sustained for about 4 months. The retail cost for this product is about $15 for a 14-day treatment.
Whitening strips are very thin, virtually invisible strips that are coated with a peroxide-based whitening gel. The strips are applied twice daily for 30 minutes for 14 days. Initial results are seen in a few days and final results are sustained for about 4 months. The retail cost for this product ranges from $10 to $55 for a 14-day treatment.

3.Teeth Whitener tips-Tray-Based Teeth Whitening Kits

Tray based teeth whitener kits, purchased either over-the-counter or from your dentist, involve filling a mouth guard-like tray with a gel whitening solution - which contains a peroxide-bleaching agent - and wearing the tray for a period of time, generally from a couple hours a day to every day during the night for up to 4 weeks and even longer (depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening).
Learn more about the differences between over-the-counter tray-based teeth whitening systems and one obtained from the dentist.

4.Teeth whitener tips -Office Whitening

In-office bleaching provides the quickest and most effective way to whiten teeth. With in-office bleaching, the whitening product is applied directly to the teeth. These products can be used in combination with heat, a special light, and/or a laser. The light and/or heat accelerate the whitening process. Results are seen in only 1, 30- to 60-minute treatment. But, to achieve dramatic results, several appointments are usually needed. However, with laser-enhanced bleaching, dramatic results can be seen after the first treatment.
In-office bleaching procedures range in cost from $200 to $500 per arch, or $500 to $1,000 for the whole mouth Teeth Whitening.

How Long Do the Teeth Whitener Kits Effects Last?

Whitening is not permanent. People who expose their teeth to foods and beverages that cause staining may see the whiteness start to fade in as little as 1 month. Those who avoid foods and beverages that stain may be able to wait one year or longer before another teeth whitening systems treatment or touch-up is needed.
The degree of whiteness will vary from individual to individual depending on the condition of the teeth, nature of the stain, the type of bleaching system used and for how long.

Over-the-Counter At-Home Teeth Whitener Kits Vs. Dentist-Supervised Teeth Whitener Kits!

There are differences between the two, including:

A. Strength of bleaching agent.

Over-the-counter home use products and dentist-supervised at-home products usually contain a lower strength-bleaching agent from 10% carbamide peroxide, which is equivalent to about 3% hydrogen peroxide, up to 22% carbamide peroxide. In-office, professionally applied tooth whitening systems contain hydrogen peroxide in concentrations ranging from 15% to 43%.

B. Mouthpiece trays.

With dentist-supervised at-home bleaching products, your dentist will take an impression of your teeth and make a mouthpiece tray that is customized to exactly fit your teeth. This customization allows for maximum contact between the whitening gel, which is applied to the mouthpiece tray, and the teeth. A custom-made tray also minimizing the gel's contact with gum tissue. Over-the-counter teeth whitening systems also contain a mouthpiece tray, but the "one-size-fits-all" approach means that the fit will not be exact. Ill-fitting trays can irritate the gum and soft tissue by allowing more bleaching gel to seep onto these tissues. With in-office procedures, the bleaching agent is applied directly to the teeth.

Costs.

A. Over-the-counter bleach based teeth whitener Kits are the least expensive option, with costs ranging from $20 to about $150.

B. Depending on where you live and the extent of the procedure, dentist-supervised home bleaching teeth whitening kits range in cost from approximately $150 to $300 per upper or lower set of teeth, or $300 to $600 for the whole mouth.

Who Should Not Undergo Teeth Whitening ?

Whitening is not recommended or will be less successful in the following circumstances:

1. Age and pregnancy issues

Bleaching is not recommended in children under the age of 16. This is because the pulp chamber, or nerve of the teeth, is enlarged until this age. Teeth whitening under this condition could irritate the pulp or cause it to become sensitive. Teeth whitening kits is also not recommended in pregnant or lactating women.

2. Sensitive teeth and allergies

Individuals with sensitive teeth and gums, receding gums and/or defective restorations should consult with their dentist prior to using a teeth whitening system. Anyone allergic to peroxide (the whitening agent) should not use a bleaching product.

Warning statement:

Gum disease, worn enamel, cavities, and exposed roots. Individuals with gum disease or teeth with worn enamel are generally discouraged from undergoing a tooth whitening procedure. Cavities need to be treated before undergoing any whitening procedure. This is because the teeth whitening systems penetrate into any existing decay and the inner areas of the tooth, which can cause sensitivity. Also, teeth whitening systems will not work on exposed teeth roots because roots do not have an enamel layer.
Fillings, crowns and other restorations. Tooth-colored fillings and resin composite materials used in dental restorations (crowns, veneers, bonding, bridges) do not whiten. Therefore, using a whitening agent on teeth that contain restorations will results in uneven whitening-in this case, making the teeth without restorations appear lighter than those with restorations. Any teeth whitening systems should be done prior to the placement of restorations.
